Job Description:
Job Description Job Description The Environmental Health and
Safety Officer (EH&S) will oversee 19 DCS facilities providing
support to the Director of Corporate Services. The Environmental
Health and Safety Officer will implement and enforce a culture of
safety at all DCS facilities, implement policies to ensure a safe
and healthy work environment, issue and manage safety related
expenditures against budget, amongst other duties. Essential Job
Functions: Administer fire safety, health, routinely inspect, test,
and maintain necessary records Maintains physical space, ensuring a
safe, clean, and OSHA compliant environment. Evaluates and analyzes
tasks and projects to mitigate risk. Acts as liaison between DCS
employees and any outside vendors to address potential workplace
hazards and risks. Drafts and implements safety policy and
documentation. Ensure safety standards are followed throughout the
DCS facilities. Perform EHS audits of facilities on an annual
basis. Formulate, track and coordinate corrective actions with
local management and employees. Charter quarterly Safety Committee
meetings and participate on Crisis Management Team. Applies, or
assists with application, for required environmental permits, other
licenses, and permits. Inspect for OSHA violations and other safety
issues. Provide guidance and training to employees to ensure
compliance with regulatory standards. Responsible for distributing
Safety communications and updating DCS Online Safety Page. Monitor
and maintain inventory of Safety supplies. Manage Safety programs
such as Hazardous Waste and Safety Shoe Programs and maintain
working relationships with vendors. Responsible for developing and
conducting environmental health and safety training for employee
owners and maintaining/updating course materials on the LMS system.
Assist in the preparation of weekly Corporate Service report by
consolidating weekly meeting notes and drafting report for the
Director to review. Develop and maintain an efficient digital
filing system through the SharePoint Portal and shared drive for
all DCS offices. Ensure adherence to all relevant OSHA, State and
Local safety regulations. Monitor DCS employees in the workplace to
ensure safety guidelines are followed. Maintain record keeping is
always in good standing. Encourage and promote the use of safer
work equipment, materials and supplies. Track and trend the number
of incidents, and report to Safety Committee with findings and
solutions. Respond to safety incidents and coordinate with DCS HR
and Legal as needed. Evaluate new chemicals for exposure potential.
Keep abreast of industry and market trends and best practices.
Collaborate and build long-term relationships with key stakeholders
and local regulators. Required Skills: Due to the sensitivity of
customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required. A
Bachelor’s degree with 12 plus years of experience in environmental
science/health, environmental engineering, safety, natural
sciences, chemistry, environmental health and safety, or related
field. Associate Safety Professional Certified, Certified Safety
Professional (CSP), Occupational Health & Safety Technologist
(OHST) or similar. Ability to understand building plans. Ability to
presentation and report to executive level leadership. Proficient
in Microsoft Office Suite or related software necessary to create
and maintain reports and logs. Excellent organizational skills and
attention to detail. Ability to perform well in a fast-paced
environment. Knowledge of safety regulations. Ability to manage
multiple projects. Knowledge of DOT shipping requirements.
Experience with hazardous waste disposal and manifest requirements.
Effective training skills and ability to create and present EHS
related training. High level of PC proficiency working with MS
office products (Specifically: Word, Excel, PowerPoint),
SharePoint, Deltek. Must possess a high level of interpersonal and
communications skills and be willing to be a team player. Physical
Requirements: Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout
facilities. Must be able to bend, lift (40lb at a time), stretch,
climb, and crawl to maintain and inspect equipment and building
systems. Climb and work on a ladder to conduct safety inspections.
Must be able to perform work in a variety of weather conditions.
Must be able to travel to perform safety audits of facilities.
Desired Skills: DOD clearance a plus. Master's Degree preferred.
