We are seeking a Senior Business Development Lead Water Resources to join our growing water resources program in Colorado. This position is available for distributed work in the state of Colorado, or in one of our Colorado Front Range based offices located in Broomfield or Fort Collins. What you will accomplish The Senior Business Development Lead Water Resources position will be responsible for developing teams and delivering on water resources projects in Colorado, Wyoming, and the northern plains. The successful candidate will focus on identifying and evaluating opportunities in the market and building strategic teaming relationships for services including water supply planning and permitting, risk management, watershed assessment and planning, fire planning and recovery, stream and wetland restoration, water quality management, and hydrological assessments. Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, and strong business development skills. Proven ability to develop productive business relationships with agency, client, and industry contacts. Prior experience in identifying opportunities, developing strategic approach, building partnerships and growing business for water-related services supporting civil and restoration design projects. Ability to initiate independently and collaborate collectively with the water team to develop SWCA's unique position in the market for resource assessment, planning, permitting and management. Willingness to engage in industry groups and committees to develop new relationships with water managers in Colorado and Wyoming, including preferred experience with Front Range municipal water and floodplain managers, Front Range water utilities, ditch companies, agencies, and conservation districts. Identify grants and funding opportunities to create partnerships with non-for-profit organizations to build projects. Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders across the organization, including project teams, project managers, clients. Collaboration with other team leads to establish best practices, talent management, assembly of project teams, and implementation of quality management plans. Motivated to establish industry leadership roles through professional organizations and outreach including holding key technical positions, publishing technical papers, delivering technical presentations, and elevating SWCA's brand in the Water Resource market. Willingness to provide internal and external training associated with technical and business development skills. Excellent time management skills, thorough understanding of task assignment, scheduling, and budgeting, and efficient use of time and resources. Excellent organizational and verbal/written communication skills. Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation. Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought. Takes responsibility for team safety, developing safety plans and anticipating potential safety hazards. Experience and qualifications for success Required Experience Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Environmental Science, Water Resource Management or a related degree. 10 years of water resources project experience, such as: water supply planning, hydrology and water balance studies, planning and design for floodplain or water quality projects. Strong business development skills as a "seller/doer" to develop productive business relationships with agency, client, and industry contacts. Developed key relationships with clients and A/E Firms to build upon selling SWCA's services in this market. Prior experience developing a business plan and client capture plans for key services and clients in the water market. Possesses a working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations impacting water resource development, planning, and management projects. Prior experience managing large / complex projects, keeping projects on schedule and budget, marshaling people and resources needed to deliver quality results. Preferred Experience Postgraduate degree in Environmental Science or Engineering. 10 years of water resources project experience, such as: water supply planning, hydrology and water balance studies, planning and design for floodplain or water quality projects in Colorado. Project experience, Including post-fire watershed studies and management, hydrologic evaluations of natural channels, drainageway restoration, and sediment source and transport modeling. National Environmental Policy Act project management, federal agency EIS experience. In Colorado, an employee in this position can expect a rate between $100,000/year and $125,000/year, depending on experience, geographic locations, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law.
