Concurrent HRO, an industry-leading Professional Employer Organization (PEO), is currently seeking a reliable and innovative full-time Benefits Consultant to become a member of our growing team!

In this role, you will have the opportunity to showcase your skills, as this role is new to Concurrent HRO and will be heavily focused on delivering benefit expertise/recommendations on medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability.


The Benefits Consultant is responsible for administration and oversight of the benefit department. This role requires maintaining a high level of confidentiality, collaborating various departments, and providing excellent client service, while focusing on delivering benefit expertise/recommendations.

Essential Functions

Client Functions

  1. Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS and carriers to provide accurate eligibility information.
  2. Presents client specific benefit plans during new-hire onboarding orientations and open enrollment.
  3. Performs quality checks and audits of benefits-related data.
  4. Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility.
  5. Enrolls employees with carriers and process qualifying life event status changes.
  6. Responds to and assists with benefits inquiries from clients and their employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries.
  7. Works with the Human Resources and Payroll Department to process benefit repayment plans during an employees leave-of-absence requests and processing of disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA.
  8. Assists with the open enrollment process.
  9. Provides necessary reports, including but not limited to new hires, terminations, status changes, COBRA administration, allocation, and billing charges.
  10. Maintains confidential personnel files and compliance with federal and state regulations, including but not limited to ACA, ERISA, HIPPA, FMLA, ADA, and COBRA.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Functions

  1. Oversees the daily workflow of the Benefits Department.
  2. Collaborates with the leadership team to understand the organizations goals and strategy related to benefit plan changes.
  3. Manage vendor relationships with carriers and brokers to ensure service levels are met and participant satisfaction is delivered.
  4. Develop and deliver effective communication materials and messaging relating to the benefits programs.
  5. Monitors and ensures the organizations compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain benefits compliance.
  6. Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in benefit laws; applies this knowledge to internal leadership team and clients to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources.
  7. Drives technology upgrades, vetting potential technology systems, and implementation of technology systems in order to increasing efficiency, effectiveness of processes and procedures for clients and internal use.
  8. Develops and implements departmental budget.
  9. Maintains confidential personnel files and compliance with federal and state regulations, including but not limited to ACA, ERISA, HIPPA, FMLA, ADA, and COBRA.
  10. Performs other internal duties as assigned.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting. Due to the pandemic, the Benefits Consultant will be partially remote and expected to return to the office to fulfill specific duties and/or conducting client visits (e.g., onboarding new clients, open enrollment, etc.).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit for long periods of time, stand, talk and hear.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and may vary depending on client demand. May require nights/weekends.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

  1. Associates degree in Business or related field, but experience and/or other training/certification may be substituted for the education.
  2. 2+ years of experience in benefits administration.
  3. Must have a benefits license/certification.
  4. Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  7. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills

  1. Bachelors diploma or equivalent required in Business, including Administration or Human Resources, a plus.
  2. Certification in PHR or SPHR, a plus.
  3. Certification in SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP, a plus.
  4. Experience in the Professional Employer Organization (PEO) industry, a plus.

In compliance with Colorados Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the Company provides the following information:

  • Pay range of $60,000/annually to $80,000/annually
