Description Benefits Supplemental Questions This is a seasonal
position approximately mid-May to mid-August. Scheduled Friday -
Sunday 6:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. or Friday - Monday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00
p.m. Position is responsible for maintenance of the ditch system.
This is a Temporary position and does not include benefits. Salary
Range: $15.50 - $19.00/hour Hiring Range: $15.50 - $17.25/hour The
incumbent performs routine work in the operation and maintenance of
the water resources system or wastewater reclamation facility.
His/her primary responsibilities include performing a variety of
tasks of routine difficulty related to the City and County's
potable and non-potable water systems, and providing information
and assistance to City and County staff and the public. Typical
duties would include: ditch and reservoir monitoring; ditch
cleaning; spraying weeks; mowing; taking ditch and reservoir
measurements; minor lab work and gathering water samples; gathering
well and piezometer measurements; and assisting staff with small
construction projects. Work on the weekends would be independent.
Work on Fridays/Mondays would be assisting other Water Resources
staff. The incumbent exemplifies the characteristics of a

incumbent provides holistic services to the public by seeking ways
to integrate programs or services provided by other departments,

of Duties: (Persons hired in this position must be able to perform

confidentiality of information consistent with applicable federal,
state and city/county rules and regulations. General: Assists in
the maintenance, operation, monitoring and repair of treatment
plant equipment, buildings and grounds. Perform unskilled and
semi-skilled including maintaining and repairing treatment facility
equipment and vehicles, checking and cleaning buildings, trash
racks, removing trash from grates, monitoring pump equipment in the
raw water station, collecting samples and recording readings from
flumes and other meters, assisting in monitoring the facilities,
backwashing filters, filling chemical feeders, analyzing water,
cleaning and painting the facility and equipment, mowing and
trimming, controlling weeds by cutting, pulling or spraying,
providing security, identifying problem areas within system and
implementing actions to correct problem areas, and responding to
customer concerns and complaints. Operate equipment such as pick-up
trucks, mower, weedie, trimmer, other mechanized equipment and hand
tools. Act as troubleshooter to resolve problems within particular
area of assignment. Provides security of facility area. Duties
require a full range of physical motion and activities including
manual digging, pushing, pulling, lifting, twisting and turning the
upper body, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing in and out of
confined spaces, balancing, crawling, reaching for objects, walking
and standing. The incumbent must also be alert to peripheral
activities when operating equipment and therefore must have a full
range of movement in the neck and shoulders. Ensure the proper
maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking
equipment and tools after use. Perform routine inspection and
preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or
needed repairs to appropriate division; clean equipment. Perform
all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security
standards. Maintain a variety of records relating to inventory,
maintenance, construction, and inspections. Respond to complaints
from the public regarding water conditions. Ensure that problems
are corrected in a timely and effective manner. Water Treatment
Plant (Performs the following additional duties) May assist with
inspections of ditch construction projects, remote location
monitoring and reservoir monitoring activities. May work in
coordination with Water Resource Administrator and Technician.
Cover weekend maintenance and inspection for raw water deliveries,
pump station operations and routine tasks as assigned.
Administrative Duties: The incumbent is responsible for effectively
managing his or her workload to achieve departmental goals. Assures
that responsibilities are performed in compliance with federal and
state regulations, Broomfield policies and procedures and the
Broomfield Municipal Code. The incumbent may confer with employees,
supervisory, and administrative personnel regarding departmental
policies and procedures. Contributes to the preparation and review
of departmental policies and procedures as necessary to maintain
the effectiveness of departmental programs. Advises applicable
administrators or departments of potential problems or concerns.
Compiles, interprets, and prepares data for studies, reports and
recommendations; coordinate departmental activities with other
departments and agencies as needed. The incumbent assists in
recommending and implementing modifications to systems, policies
and procedures. May conduct studies, analyses, and research on a
wide variety of topics. Assists in researching and analyzing legal
requirements impacting departmental programs and services. The
incumbent keeps operational records and makes required reports.
Evaluates service costs and makes related recommendations.
Identifies and recommends changes or improvements in departmental
operations to ensure assigned functions are efficient and cost
effective. Budget/Resource Management: The incumbent participates
in the preparation of the department's annual budget. Assures that
responsibilities are performed within budget and performs cost
control activities such as monitoring expenditures to assure sound
fiscal control. The incumbent is responsible for partnering with
other staff members in planning, developing, and implementing the
overall vision, mission, programs, processes and projects of the
department. Works with the team to avoid duplication of service and
to ensure that customer expectations are recognized and resolved
thereby maximizing customer satisfaction. Assists in the
development of short and long-range goals including annual efforts
to advance the City and County's mission, goals, and objectives.
Monitors the progress of projects so the goals may be obtained
within the established timeframe. Prepares purchase orders and
processes invoices as assigned. Public Relations/Communication: The
incumbent meets and confers with customers to explain departmental
plans, programs, functions, policies, and procedures. Assists
departmental staff in preparing and coordinating reports as
required. Answers letters of inquiry/complaints and talk with
customers. Attends meetings, workshops, and conventions as
necessary for the maintenance of effective services. Responds to
requests for information and advises City and County departments on
assigned programs. Maintains liaison with other departments.
Provides verbal and written information to departments. Maintains
the accuracy of any program materials posted on the
Intranet/Internet. Miscellaneous Duties: May assist in other areas
of Public Works as needed. The incumbent keeps operational records
and makes required reports. Operates a personal computer including
associated software programs. Operates a motor vehicle in traveling
to and from work sites. Assures that facilities and equipment are
maintained properly and coordinate maintenance and repair
functions. Evaluates service costs and makes related
recommendations. Identifies and recommends improvements in
departmental operations to ensure assigned functions are efficient
and cost effective. Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates
unsafe circumstances, and acts accordingly to prevent accidents.
Uses all required safety equipment. Responsible for the safety of
self, others, assets, equipment and facilities; responsible for
knowing and complying with all City and County of Broomfield and
department policies; adheres to attendance and workplace attire
policies. Performs related duties as required. Minimum
Qualifications: Training - High school graduation or GED
equivalent. Experience - Experience using Google Suite, including
Google Sheets and Forms. OR Any equivalent combination of training
and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses
the Necessary Applicant Traits. Necessary Special Requirements -
Must be at least 18 years of age; possess a valid driver's license
and safe driving record. Applicants must, as a condition of
employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire
processes: oral board, reference checks, background checks
including police check and sex-offender registry check and driving
record check through DMV. Working Conditions: The work environment
characteristics described here are representative of those an
employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the
job. The noise level in the environment is usually loud. The Water
Treatment Plant is in operation 24-hours a day and therefore, work
is scheduled between Sunday through Saturday including nights,
weekends and holidays. Travel by pickup truck is required to run
errands and perform other off-site tasks. The incumbent is exposed
to the following environmental factors: work near moving mechanical
parts; fumes or airborne particles; electrical shock; toxic or
caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; extreme heat; and
exposure to snakes and insects. The physical demands described here
are representative of those that must be met by an employee to
successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While
performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently
required to talk or hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle,
or feel objects, tools, or controls, bend or twist from the upper
body, use hands and/or feet to perform manual tasks such as
digging, push or pull, and reach with hands and arms. The employee
is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel,
crouch or crawl. Physical demands are described as medium (exert up
to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force
frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move
objects). Specific vision abilities required by this job include
close vision, distance vision, depth perception, ability to adjust
