Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery
Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour night shift Hours per Shift: 12
Experience: One year preferred License: State RN license or RN
license from a participating state in the NLC required
Certifications: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
– Required Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification –
Required Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) Certification or
Association of Women's Health, Obstetrics, and Neonatal Nurses
(AWHONN) Certification – Required Must-Have: Minimum one year
experience preferred. Description: Assess patients' physical,
psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs through observation,
interview, review of medical records, and clinical data. Evaluate
patients' responses and intervene to ensure optimal outcomes.
Develop and implement patient plans of care and observe outcomes in
accordance with nursing standards and in collaboration with the
interdisciplinary team. Demonstrate competency in a variety of
therapeutic and diagnostic interventions including but not limited
to IVs, incision/wound care, medication administration,
catheterization, and specimen collections. Promote, advocate for,
and collaborate to protect the health, safety, and rights of each
patient. Provide patient and family education through assessment of
learning readiness, needs, and ability. Provide teaching and
evaluate the effectiveness of teaching. Recognize patients or their
designees as full partners in providing compassionate and
coordinated care based on respect for preferences, values, and
needs. Provide relationship-based care in which the nurse strives
to understand what is most important to the individual. Actively
engage patients in all aspects of care. Deliver care with respect
for cultural differences and the diversity of human experience.
Delegate to non-RN personnel in accordance with State Board of
Nursing and hospital policy. Effectively use time, personnel,
equipment, and supplies to provide high-quality, cost-effective
patient care. Serve as a professional role model for all staff,
demonstrating ethical, legal, and professional nursing processes.
Manage resources and patient flow through matching nursing
competencies with individualized patient needs. Use standards of
care, hospital policies and procedures, and regulatory guidelines
to guide practice. Function effectively within nursing and
inter-professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual
respect, and shared decision-making. Precept and mentor new staff
or nursing students as needed. Seek out learning opportunities and
continuing education. Maintain professional records that provide
evidence of competency and lifelong learning. Evaluate one's
integrity and nursing practice in relation to professional
standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules, and
regulations. Take action to achieve goals identified during the
evaluation process. Demonstrate commitment to the organization
through ongoing participation in meetings. Understand the value of
measurement and the importance of continuous quality improvement
data. Use quality measures to improve performance and
accountability for patient outcomes and experiences. Participate in
