CHALLENGE The Electrical Engineer serves as a member of a team of
technical Generation Engineering electrical experts. Provides
technical guidance for engineering issues related to the
maintenance and optimization of generation facilities. Leads
engineering, procurement, and construction activities on power
plant improvement projects. Leads technical analyses and performs
evaluations of emergent technology in support of generating
technical, operational, and financial objectives. Interacts with
various parts of the organization and provides technical insight
and guidelines in the areas of expertise. THE RESPONSIBILITIES Have
experience in utility-scale power, power generation, renewable
energy, protection and control design, power system studies,
construction and equipment specification development. Execute and
lead power system studies using SKM Power Tools, ETAP, EasyPower,
or similar modeling software (including short circuit, load flow,
coordination, arc flash). Provide real-time, interactive, direct
technical support to generation sites in all areas of system
protection such as locating faults, creating protective relaying
recommendations, and performing technical studies. Develops
presentations for senior management and recommends and implements
changes for best practices. Develop and maintain NERC deliverables
for standards like MOD and FAC, and other utility regulatory
requirements. Prepare technical reports and evidence packages for
NERC audits. Provides input to plant managers for annual budgets
and spending requirements for maintenance, safety, and efficiency
improvements of generation facilities. Provides operating and
maintenance standards to improve the operating reliability and
efficiency of generating facilities. Other duties as assigned. THE
PROFILE TO SUCCEED Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
Must hold a PE license. In lieu of PE license, must have a minimum
of five (5) applicable years of experience as a practicing
engineer. Applicable years of experience may substitute for a
degree. Four (4) years of related experience in power generation,
transmission and/or distribution. Extensive knowledge of major
power plant components, controls, and protection systems, root
cause analysis, and risk analysis. Leadership role in
troubleshooting and root cause analysis of technical issues. Strong
analytical and critical thinking capability. Exceptional
verbal/written communication and presentation skills. Self-starter
with the ability to make decisions and take necessary actions
without specific direction. Effective time management and
organizational skills, keen multi-tasking capabilities, and
attention to detail. Ability to work well independently and as part
of a cross-functional team. Valid U.S. Driver's license with
acceptable MVR history. THE PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to
accomplish physical requirements with or without reasonable
accommodation. Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts
of standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting. May be
required to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs. Will use arms and
hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull: objects,
materials, controls, and tools. Will occasionally work at heights,
climb ladders, stairways, and work off of platforms. Will use
vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors,
depth perception, and peripheral vision. Will be required to wear
personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to:
hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, earplugs/muffs,
masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and steel-toe boots. Able
to hear (at some dB limit of loss) in order to hear plant alarms,
equipment condition, and to receive oral instructions. Able to see
to determine plant operating conditions and to avoid safety
hazards. Ability to travel up to 20%. THE TEAM Onward Energy team

THE WORK ENVIRONMENT The position functions in a smoke and
vaping-free professional office environment. The role routinely
utilizes standard office equipment such as a laptop computer,
phone, and scanner/photocopier. Noise levels will be moderate to
high. Job site(s) will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles,
small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, and
tools. People standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking.
